Focus and Scope

All our published work is by University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign students; students of any field may submit to Re:Search, as long as the submissions are in accordance with our vision of the journal as a site of critical analysis. We encourage undergraduate students to submit literary, media, or cultural criticism, whether revisions of papers written previously for a class, current or completed honors theses, or even projects that students conceive outside the classroom. The most important criterion for acceptance is that the author offers fresh, new critical analysis of a text, film or other work. We welcome an analysis of texts from any period or language, provided that modern English translation is provided for any material quoted within the submission. While theory is not the journal’s primary topic, we encourage submissions that refer to, reflect on, and engage with theory to provide richer and more nuanced analyses. Our anticipated audience includes university students, instructors, administration, alumni, and prospective students.

Peer Review Process

The peer review policy consists of reviewing the proposal submissions from the. In a triple blind review process, one of the Executive Board members goes through the proposals and changes them to anonymous. Then, the now anonymous proposal submissions are dispensed to the Editorial and Review Board for comments according to a Proposal Rubric. Then, the Executive Board receives the comments from the anonymous reviewers. The Executive Board then reviews the anonymous submissions and makes a decision as to which submissions to accept based on the criteria of the Aims & Scope of the journal, Prospoal Rubric, and the comments of the Editorial and Review Board. Upon making a decision, the Executive Board then collates the comments from the Editorial and Review Board, in addition to adding comments of the Executive Board, and then sends these comments back to the author.

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that greater dissemination of research benefits the authors and that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Re:Search: The Undergraduate Literary Criticism Journal

Re:Search: The Undergraduate Literary Criticism Journal at UIUC is an undergraduate produced, peer-reviewed online journal designed to annually publish works exclusively by undergraduate students. It seeks to create a venue for undergraduate students to showcase and publish literary criticism within a greater academic discourse while nurturing a collaborative community between faculty, administration, and undergraduate students.

Journal History

Our first issue was published in April/May 2014. Since December 2012, undergraduate English students have collaborated with English faculty and multiple university departments in order to establish on online platform, recruit interested students and publish a journal on an online platform to feature undergraduate student research.
